This child's first steps

Your child's first steps

Your little one's first steps are among the most precious, but also earliest, milestones in their life. This moment marks a new phase and foreshadows many beautiful, but also exciting, events to come. For some parents, this realization can be associated with many feelings and concerns. The familiar living room, the fixed play corner for your baby, may suddenly fall short in holding attention or ensuring safety.

With the newly acquired skills, your loved one can start exploring the horizons, and before you know it, your little one is no longer where you last saw him or her. Of course, babies and toddlers will not get far, but that does not eliminate the stress you will certainly experience at certain times. In this blog, we give you some tools for this special phase.

Give compliments
Learning to walk is a process with ups and downs, both literally and figuratively. For you as a parent, this is an adjustment, but the same naturally applies to your child. Therefore, stay calm in the presence of your baby and make sure you encourage your little darling sufficiently. This makes them dare more and more, and it automatically gets better. For you and for them it is lovely!

Create a safe environment
Now that your little one is starting to move around the room on their own, it is of utmost importance to have a child-friendly (living) room. Young babies can start pulling themselves up on furniture and have an increased risk of falling. The latter is of course a matter of course, but that does not mean it is pleasant. It is best for all parties to limit this as much as possible. And when your little one falls, make sure they don't land too hard. Think of a rug or a blanket - i.e. a soft surface. Avoid hard and slippery floors, as this increases the risk of falling because your child has less grip on them. Be aware that dangerous things are out of the reach of the little ones.

Limit the area
If you want to prevent your baby from just going somewhere, but they are too young for a closed playpen, it is useful to close off rooms or install a baby gate.

Use toys
By placing toys around or holding them, you stimulate your child to walk towards it. You can also choose to take a walker or car, so your baby independently walks around with their toys.

Stay close
It may be tempting to go somewhere else quickly, but when your child has just started learning to walk, it is essential to stay close. An accident is just around the corner, especially when you don't yet know exactly how your own legs and feet work.

Buy a playpen
It's not time yet, but when your little one exceeds 24 months, they will be able to walk much longer than in the first few months of learning to walk. Surely it may be a surprise where they have gone. If you are still a little hesitant about this, you can buy a playpen. In a playground or playpen, children from 2 years can play well, even with a friend next to them. You can easily take this box with you everywhere, which opens up a world of possibilities for you. Whether you are going for a day at the beach, camping or a weekend trip away with friends or family, the mobile box can easily be taken along. This means that you are no longer limited to your own living area with the little one.

At DERYAN, there are as many as three different playpens for sale!

We hope that with this blog we have been able to help you a little on your way. Remember that this is just a learning phase and your little one will get the hang of it on their own. They will fall regularly, but also get up again by their own willpower. Young children are naturally curious, and many doors open for them with this new skill.
