Baby Luxe or Toddler Luxe: Which travel crib is right for your child?

Two cribs, the same pop-up system, almost identical photos. No wonder our customer service team often gets this question: Which one should I get?

The short answer: the difference lies in the age range for which the crib is intended. Everything else is virtually the same.

What the two have in common

Before we get into the differences, it’s good to know that you won’t be sacrificing anything in these areas, no matter which one you choose:

  • Pop-up system: the crib is set up in two seconds
  • 50% UV protection for outdoor use
  • Mosquito net with openings smaller than one millimeter
  • Self-inflating mattress, carrying case, and canvas bag included as standard
  • Globally patented design

The difference: how long it lasts

The Baby Luxe is suitable for children ages 0 to 2.5 years. The Toddler Luxe is suitable for children up to 4.5 years.

That two-year difference may not sound like much, but it’s exactly the time when many parents have to buy a second bed. A three-year-old toddler no longer fits in a crib, and that’s just when the vacations start: camping, sleepovers, weekend getaways.

When the Baby Luxe Is Enough

Choose the Baby Luxe if your child is under two and you aren't expecting a second child during that time. The crib is more compact, which is convenient in a small hotel room or next to your own bed.

Even if you mainly leave the crib at Grandma and Grandpa's house for sleepovers, the Baby Luxe is a logical choice—those trips usually only last a few years.

When It's Better to Choose the Peuter Luxe

Choose the Toddler Deluxe if your child is approaching age two, or if you have or are expecting multiple children. That way, you'll buy just one crib instead of two.

Another practical benefit: toddlers sit up, roll over, and kick. The extra space means they spend less time pressing against the sides of the crib, so they wake up less often.

If you're really unsure, the Peuter Luxe is usually the more economical choice in the long run—you can use it from birth, just like the Baby Luxe.

Pay attention to the mattress: 2.5 or 3.5 centimeters

Both beds come with a self-inflating mattress. You can opt for a thicker version that is 3.5 centimeters thick.

For a single overnight stay, that doesn't make much of a difference. If you're going away for a week or longer, or if your child is a restless sleeper, that extra centimeter makes a noticeable difference. There's also a 3D mattress that allows air to flow through the core—which is nice on warm nights.

The accessories vary by size

Important to know when reordering: the accessories are not interchangeable. A sleeping mat for the Baby Luxe will not fit the Toddler Luxe, and vice versa.

Both sizes come with a cotton sleeping mat, a matching mattress, and a windscreen. So when ordering, be sure to check whether the product name includes "Baby" or "Toddler."

The choice in one sentence

If your child is younger than two and you only have one child, choose the Baby Luxe. In all other cases, the Peuter Luxe is the better choice.
