Rain on the Way: How to Keep Your Child Dry

Most parents have a rain cover. Almost no one has it with them when it starts to rain. That's the real problem.

Store it where the stroller is

A rain cover belongs in the stroller's basket, not in the hallway closet. It's lightweight and takes up very little space; leave it there all the time, and you'll always have it on hand.

Be sure to ensure proper ventilation

A completely sealed cover can become stuffy within ten minutes, especially if your child is sleeping inside it. Check to see if there are any ventilation openings, and loosen the cover as soon as it’s dry.

Rain makes cycling harder

On a bike, your child sits still in the wind, so they get cold and wet faster than when walking. A poncho that covers the seat provides better protection than a jacket because it also covers the legs.

Think about the trip back

It's dry when you leave, but not when you get home. Take a quick look at the precipitation radar before you head out; it takes ten seconds and will help you decide whether to bring an umbrella.

Dry clothes as a safety net

A change of clothes in your bag is more useful in the rain than any rain cover. Especially socks; wet feet ruin your day faster than wet sleeves.
