Can I fly with my baby? Read all about traveling with your little one.

Summer vacation is approaching again, and for many families this means they are going on vacation again. If you have a baby and are going to fly, it may require some preparation, here you can read about what you can best do to take as few worries as possible with you on vacation.

Can I fly with my baby?

Officially, you are allowed to fly 7 days after your baby's birth, however, this is only allowed if there were no complications during the birth. However, it is recommended to wait a little longer. When the baby is 6 weeks old, it is not harmful to fly, after 6 weeks a baby's lungs are developed enough that no damage can occur.

Important things before you leave

Before heading to the airport, there are a few things you need to take care of. Make sure you do these correctly to avoid any complications at the airport. Some important things are:

  • Applying for a passport for your baby. If your baby doesn't have a passport yet, apply for one as early as possible before the flight, even if you're staying within the EU. This is important in case your baby needs medical attention during your vacation.
  • Booking a ticket. Note! Many airlines allow babies to fly for free. The baby won't have their own seat, but that's not necessary for a baby yet.
  • Packing baby stuff. It's better to take too much than too little when you're packing, so I recommend packing as many things as possible to avoid forgetting something.

During the flight

When you get on the plane, it's time to make it as comfortable as possible. If you are traveling with your husband or wife, you can take turns taking care of things, one hour your partner does the work and the next hour you do it. One of the most important things during the flight is a good bed.

DERYAN owns one of these beds called 'Air Traveller', this bed is very easy to use. The Air Traveller is really a helping hand during the flight, if your baby has to lie on your legs the whole flight, your legs will start to hurt after a while. The Air Traveller ensures that your baby sits comfortably and that your legs do not hurt during the flight. The Air Traveller is light, it weighs less than 500 grams and can be taken as hand luggage on the plane.

Flying with a baby definitely requires some prep! It's important to think of everything to avoid any hiccups before, during, or after the trip. But the most important thing is to keep enjoying your vacation and not stress too much about the journey back!
