Vacationing with Two Little Ones: How to Keep It Manageable
It's not the workload that doubles, but the planning. That way, you can keep your sleep, transportation, and daily schedule manageable.
With one child, you adapt. With two, you have to make choices, because their schedules rarely align. It’s mainly a matter of deciding in advance what you’re going to let go of.
Sleep: Sleeping Apart Works Better
Two children in the same room will keep each other awake, especially the first few nights. If possible, make sure they have separate sleeping areas, even if that means one of them has to sleep in the living room. A pop-up bed makes that easy.
Transportation: Choose the longest day
A double stroller is heavier, but on a day when you’ll be doing a lot of walking, it saves you more than it costs. If your oldest child walks most of the way on their own, a single stroller with a ride-along board is often more practical.
Daily Schedule: One Set Time
Don't try to follow both schedules. Choose one set time of day when everyone rests, and plan the rest of your day around that. That's usually early afternoon.
Luggage: Allocate per child
One bag per child instead of everything mixed together saves time looking for things. Put something distinctive on it, and the oldest will grab his own things.
