Camping with a Baby: A Complete Guide to Preparation
Sleep, temperature, insects, and shade: four things to take care of in advance.
Camping with a baby sounds more complicated than it is. It all comes down to four things, and you can take care of all of them ahead of time.
Sleep
Having your own place to sleep is more important at a campground than at home: it’s brighter, warmer, and noisier there. A pop-up camp bed sets up in two seconds and offers protection from insects. The Baby Luxe is suitable for children up to 2.5 years old, and the Toddler Luxe for children up to 4.5 years old.
Heat and Cold
At a campground, it cools down faster at night than indoors, and it warms up faster during the day. Use layers instead of a single thick blanket, and don’t place the crib in direct sunlight or right in the draft coming from the tent opening.
Insects
Mosquitoes and midges are the most underrated party poopers. A fine-mesh net keeps them out, provided the mesh is small enough: a mesh size of less than one millimeter will also keep midges out.
Shadow
For an afternoon nap outdoors, you'll want shade that moves with the sun. Check the fabric's UV rating and reposition the crib as the day goes on.
