Summer break is coming again, and for many families, that means going on vacation again. If you have children and are going to fly, it can involve a lot of preparation. Here you can read what you can best do to have as few worries as possible on vacation.
Can I fly with my baby?
Officially, you can fly 7 days after your child's birth, but this is only allowed if there were no complications during delivery. However, it is recommended not to do this yet. When the child is 6 weeks old, it is safe to fly, after 6 weeks a baby's lungs have developed far enough that no damage can occur.
Important before you leave
Before heading to the airport, you need to arrange a number of things, make sure you do this correctly to avoid complications at the airport. Some important things are:
- Apply for a passport for your baby. If your child does not yet have a passport, you must apply for one as early as possible before the flight, even if you are staying within the EU. This is important if your child needs medical care during your vacation.
- Booking a ticket. NOTE! Babies fly for free on many airlines. The baby will not have its own seat, but that is not yet necessary for a baby.
- Packing baby items. When packing your belongings, it's better to take too much than too little, so I recommend packing as many things as possible to avoid forgetting things.
During the flight
When you get on the plane, it's time to make it as comfortable as possible. If you are traveling with your husband or wife, you can alternate tasks, one hour your partner does the work and the next hour you do it. One of the most important things during the flight is a good bed.
Deryan has one of those beds called 'Air Traveller'. This bed is very easy to use. The Air Traveler is a real helping hand during the flight. If your baby has to lie on your lap during the entire flight, your legs will start to hurt after a while. The Air Traveler ensures that your child is comfortable and that your legs don't bother you during the flight. The Air Traveler is lightweight, weighs less than 500 grams and can be taken on the plane as hand luggage.
A flight with a baby requires preparation, it is important that you think of everything to prevent complications before, during or after the trip. But the most important thing is to continue enjoying the holiday and not think too much about the return trip!
