Can I fly with my baby? Read all about traveling with your little one.

Summer holidays are coming up, and for many families, that means going on vacation again. If you have a baby and you're flying, it might take a little preparation. Here you'll find what you can do to take as few worries as possible on vacation.

Can I fly with my baby?

Officially, you can fly 7 days after your baby is born, but this is only allowed if there were no complications during delivery. However, it is recommended not to do so just yet. Once the baby is 6 weeks old, it's generally safe to fly, as after 6 weeks, the baby's lungs have developed enough to avoid any potential harm.

Important things before you leave

Before heading to the airport, there are a few things you need to sort out. Make sure you get it right to avoid any airport hassles. Here are some important things:

  • Apply for a passport for your baby. If your baby does not yet have a passport, you must apply for one as soon as possible before the flight, even if you are staying within the European Union. This is important in case your baby needs medical attention during your vacation.
  • Booking a ticket. Please note! Babies travel for free on many airlines. The baby won't have their own seat, but that's not necessary for a baby yet.
  • Pack baby items. When you're packing, it's better to take too much than not enough, so I recommend packing as much as possible to avoid forgetting things.

During the flight

When you get on the plane, it's time to make it as comfortable as possible. If you are traveling with your husband or wife, you can alternate tasks, one hour your partner does the work and the next hour you do it. One of the most important things during the flight is a good bed.

DERYAN has one of these beds called 'Air Traveler', this bed is very simple to use. The Air Traveler is a real boost during the flight, if your baby has to lie on your legs for the entire flight, your legs will start to hurt after a while. The Air Traveler ensures that your baby is sitting comfortably and that your legs are not bothering you during the flight. The Air Traveler is lightweight, weighs less than 500 grams and can be taken on the plane as hand luggage.

Flying with a baby requires preparation; it's important to think of everything to avoid complications before, during, or after the trip. But the most important thing is to continue enjoying your holiday and not to think too much about the return journey!
