Your toddler's first steps are one of the most precious, but also earliest milestones in your child's life. This moment marks a new phase and predicts many wonderful, but also exciting, events to come. For some parents, this realization can be accompanied by many emotions and worries. The familiar living room, your baby's usual play corner, may suddenly cease to hold their attention or guarantee their safety.
Thanks to newly acquired skills, your loved one can explore the horizons, and before you know it, your toddler will no longer be where you last saw them. Of course, babies and toddlers won’t go far, but that doesn’t take away from the stress you’ll likely feel at times. In this blog, we give you some tools for this particular phase.
Give compliments
Learning to walk has its ups and downs, literally and figuratively. It takes some getting used to for you as a parent, but the same applies to your child. So stay calm in your baby's presence and make sure you encourage your little one enough. As a result, they dare more and more, and things automatically improve. Great for you and for them!
Create a safe environment
Now that your little one is gradually moving around the room on their own, it's extremely important to have a child-friendly (living) space. Young babies can pull themselves up on furniture and have an increased risk of falling. The latter is of course self-evident, but that doesn't mean it's pleasant. It's best if all parties limit this as much as possible. And when your little one falls, make sure they don't land too hard. Think of a rug or blanket – in other words, a soft surface. Avoid hard and slippery floors, as this increases the risk of falling because your child has less grip on them. And make sure dangerous objects are kept out of the little one's reach.
Limit the area
If you want to prevent your baby from going somewhere, but they are still too young for a closed playpen, it's helpful to close off areas or install a baby gate.
Use toys
By placing or holding a few toys here and there, you encourage your child to walk towards them. You can also choose to take a walker or a car, so that your baby can walk independently with his toys.
Stay close by
It can be tempting to quickly walk somewhere else, but when your child is just learning to walk, it's essential to stick around. Accidents can happen easily, especially if you don't yet know exactly how your legs and feet work.
Buy a baby playpen
It's not time yet, but when your little one reaches 24 months, they'll be able to walk much further than during those first months of learning to walk. Especially since where they've gone can be a surprise. If you're still a bit hesitant, you can buy a baby playpen. In a playpen or play yard, children from 2 years old can play, even with a friend. You can easily take this box with you everywhere, opening up a world of possibilities. Whether you're going to the beach for a day, camping, or for a weekend with friends or family, the mobile box can be taken with you. This means you're no longer limited to your own living space with your little one.
No less than three different playpens are for sale at DERYAN!
We hope we have been able to help you in your process with this blog. Remember that this is just a learning phase and your little one will understand. They will fall regularly, but will also get up again thanks to their own will. Young children are naturally curious and many doors open to them thanks to this new skill.
iciSo don't worry too much, and enjoy your darling!
