Autumn Activities with a Toddler

It is getting colder, which means that autumn is fast approaching. You may be wondering how to keep your toddler busy now that playing outside is becoming less attractive. Even if the weather can be a bit unpredictable, that doesn't mean you can't go out anymore. Autumn still offers many opportunities for fun outdoor activities with your toddler. In this blog, we share six activities for the beautiful autumn days and rainy days with your toddler.

  1. Cycling together
If it's not raining, it's wonderful to cycle together. Enjoy some fresh air while your little one admires the surroundings from a bicycle seat. This is the perfect time to chat together or plan an outing. When it's a little colder, a footmuff can provide extra warmth for your child.

  2. Forest walk
Autumn brings beautiful changes in the forest, like colorful leaves, mushrooms, and falling leaves. The forest becomes a new world of discovery for your little one. Go for a walk together and enjoy nature. Don't forget to bring rain boots in case it has rained so your little one can jump in the puddles. If you don't have much time, you can also bring a buggy.

  3. Collecting new toys
In autumn, the forests are full of pine cones, acorns, and chestnuts. Bring a bag and let your child collect all these beautiful finds. Children have boundless imaginations, so this is just as much fun for them as a new toy. When your child is done, the collected treasures can simply be placed in the green container or used for craft projects.

  4. Crafting
Your child can create beautiful works of art with pine cones, acorns, chestnuts, leaves, and crafting supplies such as (finger) paint. Inspiration can be found on Pinterest, but you can also let your little one create freely.

  5. Autumn treasure hunt
Print out some pictures of typical autumn objects in nature and laminate them if necessary. With your child, look for everything in the pictures. If your child is still developing their language, you can also use the pictures to learn new words. It's a fun and educational activity.

  6. Baking together
What's better than watching a movie under a blanket on the couch on a rainy day? It can be even better if you prepare something with your little one. Decorating baked treats stimulates your child's creative brain and fine motor skills. It's a fun and tasty activity.

Thanks to these tips, you no longer have to worry about long autumn days with an active toddler. Whether you are indoors or outdoors, there are plenty of fun activities on offer. An additional advantage is that playing outside is healthy for your child all year round.
