Autumn Activities with a Toddler

It's getting colder again, which means autumn is just around the corner. You might be wondering how to keep your little one busy now that playing outside is less appealing. Even though the weather might be a bit unpredictable, it doesn't mean you can't go outside anymore. Autumn still offers plenty of opportunities for fun outdoor activities with your little one. In this blog, we're sharing six activities for both beautiful and rainy autumn days with your little one.

1. Cycling together
   If it's not raining, it's lovely to cycle together. Enjoy some fresh air while your little one admires the surroundings from a bike seat. This is the perfect time to chat or plan an outing. If it's a bit colder, a footmuff can provide extra warmth for your child.
   
   
2. Picnic
   Autumn brings beautiful changes in the forest, such as colored leaves, mushrooms, and falling leaves. The forest becomes a new world of discovery for your little one. Go for a walk together and enjoy nature. Remember to bring rain boots in case it has rained, so your little one can jump in puddles. If you don't have much time, you can also bring a stroller.
   
   
3. Collecting new toys
   In autumn, the forests are full of pine cones, acorns, and chestnuts. Take a bag with you and let your child collect all these beautiful finds. Children have a vivid imagination, so for them, this is just as fun as new toys. When your child is done with it, the collected treasures can just be thrown in the green container or used for craft projects.
   
   
4. Crafting
   With pine cones, acorns, chestnuts, leaves, and craft materials such as (finger) paint, your child can create beautiful works of art. Inspiration can be found on Pinterest, but you can also let your little one design freely.
   
   
5. Autumn scavenger hunt
   Print out some pictures of typical autumn objects in nature and laminate them if necessary. Go with your child on a hunt for everything that is in the pictures. If your child is still developing in speech, you can also use the pictures to learn new words. It's a fun and educational activity.
   
   
6. Baking together
   What's better than watching a movie under a blanket on the couch on a rainy day? It can be even better if you bake something together with your toddler. Decorating the baked treats stimulates your child's creative brain and fine motor skills. It's a fun and tasty activity.

With these tips, you don't have to dread long autumn days with an active toddler. Whether you're indoors or outdoors, there are plenty of fun activities to enjoy. An added bonus is that playing outside is healthy for your child all year round.
