Navigating the City with a Stroller: What Should You Keep in Mind?

In the city, you'll quickly find out if a stroller is right for you. Not on a quiet sidewalk, but when you hit the third curb, the crowded tram, and the stairs with no elevator.

Weight matters more than you think

A stroller that you have to lift regularly will take its toll by the end of the day. When climbing stairs, riding public transportation, and loading and unloading it, every kilo makes a difference. So don’t just look at its handling; also consider how it feels in your hands.

Folding with one hand

Your other hand is usually occupied. A stroller that folds up in one motion is more practical than one that’s just two centimeters shorter. Practice folding it at home once before you actually need it.

Wheels and Surface

Cobblestones, tram tracks, and speed bumps call for wheels that won’t get stuck on every bump. If you’re mainly pushing the stroller on asphalt and pavers, a compact stroller will do just fine. If you’re often on unpaved terrain, look for larger wheels.

Think about the trip back

You plan the trip there, but the trip back just happens. With groceries, a sleeping child, and rain, the route suddenly changes. A rain cover and a bag that attaches to the push bar make all the difference.
