Your little one's first steps are one of the most precious, but also earliest milestones in your child's life. This moment marks a new phase and predicts many beautiful, but also exciting events to come. For some parents, this realization can be accompanied by many emotions and worries. The familiar living room, the regular play area for your baby, may suddenly fall short in holding attention or ensuring safety.
With the newly learned skills, your loved one can explore the horizons, and before you know it, your little one is no longer where you last saw him or her. Of course, babies and toddlers won't go far, but that doesn't take away the stress that you will definitely experience at certain times. In this blog, we'll give you some guidance for this special phase.
Give compliments
Learning to walk has its ups and downs, literally and figuratively. As a parent, this takes some getting used to, but the same naturally applies to your child. Therefore, stay calm in the presence of your baby and make sure you encourage your little one enough. This will make them dare more and it will get better on its own. Nice for you and for them!
Create a safe environment
Now that your little one is slowly moving through the room on their own, it is extremely important to have a child-friendly (living) space. Young babies can start pulling themselves up on furniture and have an increased chance of falling. The latter is of course self-evident, but that doesn't mean it's pleasant. It is best for all parties to limit this as much as possible. And when your little one falls, make sure they don't land too hard. Think of a carpet or blanket – in other words, a soft surface. Avoid hard and slippery floors, as this increases the chance of falling because your child has less grip on them. And make sure that dangerous items are out of the little one's reach.
Limit the area
If you want to prevent your baby from just going somewhere, but they are still too young for a closed playpen, it is useful to close off rooms or install a baby gate.
Use toys
By placing or holding some toys here and there, you stimulate your child to walk towards them. You can also choose to take a walker or car, so that your baby can walk independently with their toys.
Stay close by
It may be tempting to quickly walk somewhere else, but when your child is just learning to walk, it is essential to stay with them. Accidents happen in a small corner, especially when you don't yet know exactly how your own legs and feet work.
Buy a playpen
It's not there yet, but when your little one passes 24 months, they will be able to walk a lot further than during the first months of learning to walk. Certainly then it can be a surprise where they have gone. If you are still a bit apprehensive about this, you can buy a playpen. In a playpen, children from 2 years old can play, even with a friend. You can easily take this box with you everywhere, opening up a world of possibilities for you. Whether you're going to the beach for a day, camping, or a weekend away with friends or family, the mobile box can be taken along. This means you are no longer limited to your own living space with the little one.
At DERYAN, there are no fewer than three different playpens for sale!
We hope that we have been able to help you along the way with this blog. Remember that this is just a learning phase, and your little one will get the hang of it on their own. They will fall regularly, but also get up again out of their own willpower. Young children are naturally curious, and many doors open for them with this new skill.
So don't worry too much, and enjoy your sweetheart!
